Karate (空 手 道) is a martial art originating from Japan. Karate martial arts were brought to Japan through Okinawa. This martial art was first called "Tote" which means like "Chinese Hand." When karate entered Japan, Japanese nationalism at that time was high, so sensei Gichin Funakoshi changed the Okinawan kanji (Tote: Chinese hand) in Japanese kanji to 'karate' (Blank Hand) to be more easily accepted by Japanese society. Karate consists of two starch. The first is 'Kara' 空 and means 'empty', and the second, 'te' 手, means 'hand'. Both kanji together mean "empty hand" 空手 (pinyin: kongshou).
According to Zen-Nippon Karatedo Renmei / Japanese Karatedo Federation (JKF) and the World Karatedo Federation (WKF), which is considered the main karate style, namely:
The four streams are recognized as the main Karate style because they participate in the formation of JKF and WKF.
But the leading style of karate in the world is not just the four styles above it. Some large sects such as Kyokushin, Shorin-ryu and Uechi-ryu are widespread in various countries of the world and are known as the famous Karate school, although they are not included in the "Big 4 WKF".
In Japan, the organization that accommodates Karate sports throughout Japan is JKF. The organization that accommodates Karate around the world is the WKF (formerly known as WUKO - World Union of Karatedo Organization). There is also the ITKF (Traditional International Karate Federation) which holds traditional karate. The function of JKF and WKF was mainly to strengthen Karate which was "without direct contact", in contrast to the Kyokushin or Daidojuku schools which were "direct contact".
The basic Karate training is divided into three as follows:
Kihon, who practices basic karate techniques such as hitting, kicking and parrying techniques.
The word, is a technical practice or karate flower.
Kumite, who is arguing.
Today karate can also be divided into traditional schools and sports schools. Traditional streams emphasize martial arts and fighting techniques while sports flow build techniques for sports competitions.
